Being prepared is everyone’s responsibility. Emergency responders play a critical role, but individuals and families should plan ahead for emergencies at home, work, or in their community.

What Is an Evacuation Plan?

An emergency evacuation plan outlines:

  • Exit routes

  • Safe meeting areas

  • Clear steps to follow during an emergency

When Might Evacuation Be Needed?

  • Floods or hurricanes

  • Tornadoes

  • Fires or explosions

  • Chemical spills or gas leaks

  • Civil unrest

  • Workplace violence

How to Create Your Plan

  • Identify risks in your area

  • Determine at least 3 exit routes

  • Choose safe meeting locations

  • Assign responsibilities

  • Practice your plan

  • Prepare emergency kits
