Nova Scotia Power's - African Nova Scotian Bursary Program 

Has four $2,500, non-renewable awards.

Each year, we offer 20 scholarships and eight bursaries to qualifying students enrolled in trades and degree programs. These categories include:

Delmore Buddy Daye Institute  - Scholarship for African Canadians 

The DBDLI Scholarship listing is a one stop resource to provide information on scholarships and bursaries available from local post secondary institutions and not for profit and philanthropic organizations. We will work to update on an annual basis.

Black Business and Professional Association - The Al Hamilton Scholarship

Honours the late Al Hamilton, journalist, founder of an ethno-cultural newspaper for the Black community, and a respected community activist.

University of Kings  College - The Alumni Association Minority Scholarship

Awarded annually to an African Canadian or Aboriginal student pursuing the one-year Bachelor of Journalism program at King’s.

The Association of Black Law Enforcers -Association of Black Law Enforcers Scholarship Award

These scholarships are for Black or visible minority students who are planning to or are currently attending a post-secondary institution studying in a law or criminal justice program (see website for accepted programs). Candidates must demonstrate community involvement, volunteer work and good moral character​

They provide assistance to African Canadian students who are attending a recognized university, studying towards a social work degree.​

NSCC Truro Campus -  Adult Learners 

Two scholarships of $1,500 (one of which is designated for a NSCC Truro Campus student) are for adults who have completed their grade 12 through an adult learning program, and are going on to, or continuing in college, university, or a trades and technology program.​

The Africville Heritage Trust together with Waterbury Newton Law Firm

A scholarship program  to provide financial assistance to former residents and descendants of former Africville residents who pursue post secondary education, as well as to students who demonstrate an effort to further the purpose of the Society through community advocacy, research, publications and training. The fund will provide annual scholarships in all fields of study, provided that studies are through an accredited Canadian college or university.​

The African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALT) Scholarship Program

Commemorates the late Nelson Mandela’s commitment to social justice and equity. It supports young African professionals to become leaders in public policy and administration • Complete a one to two-year Master’s level program in public administration, public policy or public finance at a Canadian university • Put together a comprehensive professional development plan • Develop a case study focusing on their home country • Are mentored by a Canadian expert • Participate in webinars and networking event

Black Business and Professional Association - The Alrica Gordon Scholarship-

Sponsored by Mr. Konata Lake, former recipient of more than one BBPA scholarship. He sponsors the scholarship in honour of his mother, Mrs. Gordon, for her support through his many years of studies. • Mr. Lake has asked that the scholarship recipient be a graduate of C.I., C.W. Jeffreys, Emery Collegiate Institute, or of other Jane-Finch at-risk high schools in Toronto.

Nova Scotia Community College - Arnold D. Johnson Award for Water Resources

Program Delivery - Full-time • Campus - Ivany Campus • Year of Study - Year 1 • Program – Environmental Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology • Good Academic Standing • Applicants must self-identify as Indigenous African Nova Scotian students • Applicants must have a minimum average of 80% in their most recent education.​

Athena Bell Colpitts Scholarship

This scholarship was established in June 2003 to an annual scholarship for Indigenous Black, Aboriginal, and Inuit Law students.  Those who demonstrates financial need.​

Must be Nova Scotian • Left the public-school system before completing grade 12, and has not yet completed grade 12.​

Tribe Network and SMU launch Scholarships

Undergraduate Award: applicants must meet undergraduate admission requirements to a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Commerce program, with an intended major in Computer Science or Computing and Information Systems. Recipients of the Undergraduate Tribe Network Award will receive $5,000 annually upon meeting the academic criteria.

Graduate Scholarship: applicants must be a graduate student of Saint Mary’s University in any discipline involving computing and analytics. Recipients will receive $10,000 annually, which can be applied towards tuition reduction and/or support for student internships.

Skilled Trade Student NSCC Workforce   Bursary 

Students with financial need can apply for the $5,000 Growing Nova Scotia’s Skilled Trades Workforce Bursary to help pay for tuition and living costs while training in high-demand construction trades programs at NSCC campuses across Nova Scotia
